Most people assume that with a name like Punt, I must be a big football fan…not the case at all. She was actually named, as was her entire litter, after an Irish coin. In her case the Irish one pound coin – the Punt which was ultimately replaced by the Euro in 2002.
Punt was a special specimen in that she was very quick out of the starting box, she would frequently lead the first out of the race, but would quickly fade and give up, even turning around in some instances and return to the start and wait for the others to make the entire trip around the track. It didn’t make for a great race, but it is what earned her an early retirement and a spot on my couch.
